1. What is the staff-to-guest ratio?

The normal staff-to-guest ratio of a luxury hotel is one to one. Hotels with a higher ratio are even better selections to ensure your comfort and satisfaction.

2. Room size.

A true luxury room should be at least 400 square feet and include a sitting area.

3. Beautiful Views.

room overlooking a parking lot or into a brick wall is not luxurious. Period.

4. Quality furnishings and exceptional amenities.

Luxury is in the details, so sheet thread counts (300 is the minimum acceptable), toiletry brands and date the room was last refurbished (if it has been more than five years ago, its current luxurious state is probably questionable) are important in choosing a luxury hotel.

5. Coke or Cabernet?

A hotel's dining options can serve as a good indication of its quality. Looking at the hotel’s menu online is a good way to judge its quality.

6. Location, location, location.

It is true that many luxury values can be found away from the central action of a popular city, but when thinking of booking a stay with one of these hotels keep in mind how much you plan on leaving your hotel. You may decide it is not such a great value.

7. Grand and diverse guest services.

From personal trainers in the hotel’s private fitness center to fuzzy robes and accommodating room butlers, a wide range of guest services shows that the hotel is focused on giving guest a truly luxurious experience.
