Ahwahnee, California
Ahwahnee, CA derived it’s name from the Yosemite Indian Tribe, Ahwahneechee. Located in a pretty, rural setting in East Madera County, Ahwanhee hosted President Theodore Roosevelt on a whistlestop enroute to Yosemite National Park in the late 1880’s. Ahwanhnee was a classic, California gold rush town, populated by prospectors and miners. Not to be missed is the historical ceremonial Miwok Indian site located in Wassama Round House State Historic Park in Ahwanhee.
