Coarsegold, California
Coarsegold was previously called Coarse Gold, Gold Gulch, Michaels, Oro Grosso, Texas Flat, and Coarse Gold Gulch before it finally settled on its present name. The place was renowned because it was rich in gold, which was first discovered in the 1840s. The place is dominated by the Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians, a federally recognized tribe in California.
