Coulterville, California
Previously known as Maxwell’s Creek, Coulterville is located in Mariposa County, California. It was named after George W. Coulter, one of the first white settlers during the 1850s, as the city was already populated by the Mexicans and Chinese. These people lived in the area to mine gold and other minerals. If you happen to visit the place, don’t forget to check out the “Hang Tree” where several lynchings and lawful executions transpired.
