Claxton is a small town and the county seat of Evans County, Georgia. It is well-known for a meteorite incident that occurred in 1984. Fragments of an L6 meteorite hit a mailbox that was later sold for $83,000 since it was the only mailbox in the world hit by a meteorite. Also, Claxton is world famous for its delicious fruitcake made by Claxton Fruitcake Company.
