Monroe, Michigan
The City of Monroe is a standout amongst the most notable urban areas in Michigan. Surely understood as the home of Gen. George A. Custer, World Headquarters of La-Z-Boy Incorporated and having the Historic River Raisin flowing West to East into Lake Erie, Monroe is quick turning into an arts and cultural hub. The River Raisin Jazz Festival held annually in the month of August draws in music enthusiasts across the country. The River Raisin Battlefield, the site of the bloodiest skirmish of the War of 1812, is being examined for consideration in the National Parks System. Downtown Monroe hosts the Monroe County Historical Museum, the River Raisin Center for the Arts and fine dining, and shopping.
