The City of Bordentown has a designated downtown district with fine restaurants, art galleries, antique stores, book shops, famous record store and small boutiques. Most of the one square mile is a designated Historic District. One of the centerpieces in the downtown district is the Bordentown Historical Society’s headquarters in The Friends Meeting House built in 1740 and restored to its colonial appearance. The Bordentown Historical Society maintains documents, photographs, antiques and quantities of local materials related to Bordentown’s history.
Joseph Bonaparte, former King of Naples and Spain and brother to Napoleon I of France, established his residence in Bordentown overlooking the Delaware River Valley.
